Media & Theatre Sandbox Websites
Pervasive Media Studio
Recently our designs for Pervasive Media Studio's Theatre and Media Sandbox websites have gone live. We were asked to update our (very old) design of the iShed website, and while we were at it create unified sites for their Media and Theatre Sandboxes as well.
The annual Sandbox schemes were set up to support creative and inventive ideas using pervasive technologies. Through the schemes several start ups are awarded funding each year to pursue experimental ideas and research which they would otherwise not have the opportunity to follow; all based in the open and communal Pervasive Media Studio.
The Sandbox schemes are not designed to produce finished, polished ideas, but are set up to provide the environment for truly creative ideas to flourish and thrive. The design of the websites needed to reflect this, and as such we made an effort to create a suite of websites which reflected the ethos of the schemes. The unorthodox non-linear construction of the websites mirrors that of the Pervasive Media Studio where the sandboxes are based and the varied typefaces reflect the mixture of voices which go into each of the projects and the schemes. The sites are open and spacious, yet controlled and easily navigable.
The Sandbox sites had to sit comfortably alongside the newly rebranded Watershed website, yet stand out from the crowd with their own distinct voice.
It was a pleasure to continue to work with the Watershed and Pervasive Media Studio, and we look forward to seeing what the Media and Theatre Sandbox schemes create this year.
